Saddle Stitch Book and Marketing Product

Overview

For this project we were identify and research a relevant topic that was personally meaningful to us and then conceptualize and design all visual content to incorporate in either an informative or a process-based 24-page book concept. We also needed to create an original mark/logo to symbolize the topic and develop one related promotional piece or product.

Design Decisions

I decided to design a process-based book on taking rose cuttings as this is something new I had tried in 2020 when I was able to spend more time gardening. The three cuttings I took came up this year after winter and I was excited to see if I could simply outline the process for doing this. In addition, because I could take photos and had the supplies, this would enable me to use and develop my own artwork without having to rely on finding photographs to use.

Research

While researching information about roses, I came across many poems and thought perhaps using rhyme to outline the process would be fun. Once I started a few illustrations on the interior, I decided to maintain the same style throughout.

Here are the first and last pages of the book.

Summary

From creating the poem outline to simple key illustrations, I enjoyed all aspects of this project. It gave me more experience in developing simple instructions and teaming them with visuals.

I've included a few key page spreads below for your review.
